General Practice

Where is Lakefront Eye Care located?
We're in Edgewater, Colorado β€” at Sheridan and 20th, right across from Target. We serve patients from Edgewater, Sloan's Lake, Northwest Denver, Wheat Ridge, and Lakewood.
What kind of practice is Lakefront Eye Care?
We're a full-scope optometry practice that also offers advanced aesthetics and wellness treatments. We provide comprehensive eye exams, dry eye treatment, contact lens fittings (including specialty lenses), urgent eye care, and aesthetic services like EMFace, EXOMind, IPL, RF, Exion skin treatments, and AURA 3D facial analysis β€” all under one roof.
Who are the doctors?
Dr. Jill M. Bert, OD is our Clinical Director and founded the practice in 2015. Dr. Caroline Kucha, OD is our Associate Optometrist. Both doctors are experienced in comprehensive eye care, specialty contact lenses, dry eye management, and myopia control.
What makes Lakefront Eye Care different from other eye doctors?
We take a holistic, root-cause approach to eye care. We don't just check your vision β€” we look at how your eye health connects to your overall wellness. We're also one of the few optometry practices that offers advanced aesthetics treatments, because many of the technologies that treat dry eye (IPL, RF) also rejuvenate skin. We treat the whole person, not just the symptom.

Scheduling & Insurance

How do I schedule an appointment?
You can book online through our website using the "Book Now" button, or call us directly at (303) 578-8055. For urgent eye care, always call us first β€” same-day urgent appointments may not be visible on the online scheduler, but we will prioritize getting you in.
What insurance do you accept?
We accept most major vision and medical insurance plans. Please call us or check our website for the full list of accepted plans. Our team can verify your benefits before your appointment.
Are aesthetics treatments covered by insurance?
EMFace, EXOMind, and Exion are elective aesthetic and wellness treatments and are not covered by insurance. IPL and RF treatments for dry eye are typically not covered by insurance at this time. We can discuss pricing and treatment packages during your consultation.
Do I need a referral to come to Lakefront Eye Care?
No referral is needed. You can schedule directly with us for any of our services β€” eye exams, dry eye consultations, contact lens fittings, urgent eye care, or aesthetics consultations.

Eye Exams

What's included in your comprehensive wellness exam?
Our exam includes visual acuity and refraction (your glasses/contacts prescription), binocular vision assessment, intraocular pressure measurement (glaucoma screening), anterior segment evaluation with our Firefly digital slit lamp, dilated or wide-field retinal examination using our Eidon Ultra-Wide Field imaging and Zeiss Cirrus OCT, ocular surface health assessment, and systemic health correlation β€” connecting what we see in your eyes to your overall health picture.
How long is a comprehensive eye exam?
Plan for approximately 45–60 minutes. Our comprehensive wellness exams are thorough β€” we evaluate your vision, eye health, ocular surface, and systemic health connections. If you're also interested in a dry eye or aesthetics consultation, let us know when you schedule and we can allow additional time.
I can see fine β€” do I still need an eye exam?
Yes. The conditions that cause the most vision loss β€” glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy β€” often have no symptoms in their early stages. By the time you notice a problem, significant damage may have already occurred. Regular comprehensive exams are the single most important thing you can do to protect your vision.

Dry Eye

What is dry eye disease?
Dry eye is a chronic condition where your eyes don't produce enough quality tears or your tears evaporate too quickly. The most common cause is meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) β€” when the tiny oil-producing glands in your eyelids become blocked or inflamed. Symptoms include burning, stinging, grittiness, excessive tearing, blurry vision, light sensitivity, and eye fatigue.
My eyes water all the time β€” how can that be dry eye?
It sounds counterintuitive, but excessive tearing is one of the most common signs of dry eye. When your tear film is unstable (usually because the oil layer is deficient due to MGD), your eyes become irritated β€” and your body responds by producing a flood of watery reflex tears. Those reflex tears don't have the right composition to actually lubricate your eyes, so the cycle continues.
Does IPL hurt?
Most patients describe IPL as a gentle warm snap β€” like a rubber band lightly tapping the skin. It's very tolerable. Protective eye shields are placed over your eyes during the treatment, and a cooling gel is applied beforehand. There's no downtime β€” you can return to normal activities immediately.

Aesthetics & Wellness

What is EMFace?
EMFace is the first and only device that simultaneously treats facial skin and muscles β€” without needles or injections. It uses synchronized radiofrequency and HIFESβ„’ (High-Intensity Facial Electrical Stimulation) to lift and tone facial muscles naturally, reduce wrinkles, improve skin elasticity, and create a natural, refreshed look β€” not a "frozen" one.
What is EXOMind?
EXOMind is FDA-cleared, non-invasive brain stimulation that supports emotional balance, focus, and mental clarity. It gently stimulates targeted brain areas associated with mood and stress regulation, helping your brain form new neural pathways. Sessions are 30 minutes, feel like gentle tapping or pulsing on the scalp, and require no medication or downtime.
What is the AURA 3D analysis?
The AURA 3D is a comprehensive, objective, 3D facial skin analysis that evaluates fine lines, texture, pigmentation, sun damage (including UV damage beneath the surface), pore size, skin elasticity, facial symmetry, and redness patterns. It takes about 10 minutes, is completely non-invasive, and is included as part of every aesthetics consultation.
